.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 126 PM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025
Today...
A dry cold front slipped through Nebraska and Iowa this morning,
dropping temperatures by a few degrees in comparison to yesterday.
By 1 PM this afternoon, temperatures ranged from the low 40s in
northeast Nebraska to the mid to upper 40s over southeast
Nebraska/southwest Iowa. Winds became a bit gusty behind the front
this morning, reaching speeds of 20 to 30 mph at times. Wind speeds
are expected to diminish through the afternoon and evening.
Tuesday through Thursday...
A thermal ridge continues to build over the western CONUS Tuesday
and Wednesday, drawing gusty south winds and warmer temperatures
back into the region. Wind speeds will increase to 20 to 25 mph with
gusts up to 30 mph. Highs on Tuesday will reach the low to mid 60s,
with mid to upper 60s, and perhaps a few 70s expected by Wednesday.
A surface low will track across Nebraska Tuesday afternoon into
Wednesday. While this system looks to be fairly moisture-starved, it
could squeeze out a few rain showers Tuesday evening into Wednesday.
Given the spotty nature of these showers, will continue to include
slight chance PoPs (15-25%).
A series of shortwaves will ripple through the northwesterly flow
Wednesday night into Thursday, bringing additional slight chance
PoPs (15-25%), mainly over western Iowa. In addition to the
showers, we will see a weak push of cooler air from the north,
allowing highs to dip a few degrees Thursday, into the low to
mid 60s.
Friday and Beyond...
By Friday and into the weekend, a prominent ridge is progged to
build over the Plains. Expect a notable warming trend through
Sunday. Highs in the 60s on Friday will reach into the 70s on
Saturday, pushing into the upper 70s and low 80s by Sunday.
